Twisted Trout Headband: Free Crochet Pattern

The Twisted Trout Headband is a quick and cozy crochet project that’s perfect for chilly fall and winter days! The beautiful textured stitches and twisted front give it a fun, stylish look while the bulky yarn keeps your ears extra warm.

Materials

• Bulky weight yarn, size 6
• H/5 mm crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Scissors

Abbreviations

• CH – Chain
• SC – Single crochet
• DC – Double crochet
• SK – Skip
• ST – Stitch
• STS – Stitches

Pattern Notes

• The headband is worked flat in rows and then sewn together to create the twist.
• Chain 50 creates an adult-sized headband.
• To adjust the size, add or remove chains until the starting chain comfortably wraps around the head.
• The chain should fit snugly without being too tight.

Twisted Trout Headband Pattern

Starting Chain:
CH 50.

Row 1:
SC in the second CH from the hook and in each CH across. Turn.
49 SC

Row 2:
CH 3. DC in the next ST, SK 1 ST, and work 1 DC into each of the next 4 STS. Work your angled DC back into the skipped ST.

Continue repeating this stitch pattern across the row. Turn.

Continue repeating Row 2 until the headband reaches your desired width.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Creating the Twist

Lay the headband flat with the right side facing up.

Bring the two short ends together. Fold each end in half, then slide the folded ends together so they alternate like a sandwich.

Using the long yarn tail, sew securely through all four layers. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Turn the headband right-side out to reveal the twist!
