The I Smell Snow Hat is a warm and cozy ribbed hat inspired by crisp air, falling snow, and those perfect winter days spent curled up with yarn and a warm drink. It is worked flat using simple stitches and then sewn together, making it a quick and beginner-friendly project.

Materials

  • Premier Superwash Chunky yarn
  • H/5 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Optional pom-pom

Abbreviations

  • CH – Chain
  • SC – Single crochet
  • BLO – Back loop only
  • ST – Stitch
  • STS – Stitches

Pattern Notes

  • This hat is worked flat in rows.
  • Chain 1 does not count as a stitch.
  • Work each single crochet into the back loop only to create the ribbed texture.
  • The beginning chain determines the height of your hat.
  • The number of rows determines the circumference.
  • This pattern makes an adult-size hat.
  • Add or remove chains to change the height.
  • Add or remove rows to adjust the fit.

I Smell Snow Hat Pattern

Chain 33.

Row 1: Work 1 SC in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across. You should have 32 stitches. Chain 1 and turn.

Row 2: Work 1 SC in the BLO of each stitch across. Chain 1 and turn.

Rows 3–64: Repeat Row 2.

Do not fasten off yet.

Finishing the Hat

Fold the finished rectangle in half, lining up the first and last rows.

Slip stitch or sew the two short ends together to form a tube. Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail for closing the top.

Thread the yarn tail onto your yarn needle. Weave it in and out evenly around the top edge of the hat. Pull firmly to cinch the opening closed.

Secure the yarn, fasten off, and weave in all remaining ends. Turn the hat right side out and add a pom-pom if desired.

Your cozy I Smell Snow Hat is finished and ready for the first snowy day!
